What if your little swimmers didn't have to “do a regular swimming lesson” to start learning their swimming skills?

What if they could be a frog?🐸 Or a starfish? ⭐Or even a crocodile crawling through the water? 🐊

Under the sea animal theme lesson plan

The creative swim teaching Creature & Critters theme lesson plan for parents and swim instructors looking for a playful way to introduce beginner swimmers aged 2–5 (plus big kids) to the water while learning swim skills along the way.

The creatures and critters lesson plan guarantees to turn early swimming skills into an imaginative animal adventure, giving young swimmers a chance to move, explore, pretend and play while they become more comfortable and able in the water.

When technical swimming skills feel more like play, little swimmers have more ways to join in and discover what they can do in the water.

The lesson plan gives you 26 different creatures and critters to act out in the pool, each providing a playful way to perform early swimming skills, not just a bunch of random activities.

Encourage:

💦 Water confidence and familiarity

🐾 Body awareness and movement

🤸 Coordination

🌊 Basic swimming movements

⭐ Floating and body position

🐸 Kicking and propulsion

🫧 Breath control and exploration

🧠 Following simple instructions through play

What's included?

✔26 Bright and friendly illustrations to follow

✔Simple instructions for each creature and critter

I created this activity sheet because little swimmers and bigger beginners don't always learn best by sitting still, listening carefully and doing exactly what they're told. I realize that sometimes they need to move, imagine, copy, explore and have a bit of fun.

That's useful when you're working with swimmers who aren't ready or don't suit formal swimming lessons, are nervous about the water, or simply become more engaged when there's a story or game involved.

You don't have to follow it like a checklist. Just choose a creature, show them how it moves, then let them have a go. You can add your own silly ideas or create your own games ie Simon Says and Animal Charades.
